About
Divertimento
PERFORMING IN WARWICKSHIRE SINCE 1983
Divertimento is a group of thirty or so singers. The number varies from time to time but the one thing that never changes is our passion for singing and all things vocal.
The appointment of Laura Bailie, our first professional Musical Director, saw the beginning of a new chapter in Divertimento's future. Choir and audience alike are enjoying a renewed passion and an exciting approach under her expert direction.
Our programmes are mainly made up of unaccompanied pieces in almost any style you can think of. We love sacred and secular music, from the Renaissance right through to the present day, and from all around the world. We sing in English, Latin and various European languages, as well as fa la la and doo be doo (and the very occasional hey nonny no). We've even had the odd go at a couple of African languages. And Welsh.
We do also include longer works from time to time, accompanied by piano, organ and occasionally by a small orchestra. And we have many very talented musicians within the group who have treated us and our audiences to some very special performances on flute, clarinet, recorder, saxophone, piano, organ, harpsichord, violin, viola, kazoo ...
We're sure you've got the idea. We simply love music and we always hope that this comes across in our performances. Come along to one and let us know what you think

St Nicholas Church,

Divertimento are excited to have been chosen as one of just ten choirs to perform the world premiere of Russell Hepplewhite's glorious Living Voices suite, commissioned by Stainer & Bell. Each choir will sing one of the ten poems written specially for this work. Ours is Tender, with words by Mona Arshi.
Alongside this fabulous piece, we have chosen a selection of beautiful choral compositions by living composers including Whitacre, Muvla, Wailin' Jennys, Anglea, Todd, Dove and Rutter (but not as you know him - come along and find out).
This promises to be a unique evening of wondrous, approachable music that we think our audiences will love.
Join us for informal drinks at 7.30 followed by the concert at 8 pm. Then stay and meet the choir afterwards.
